I enjoyed this book very much. It was really funny in parts, and kind of uncomfortable in other parts. Like Ron White, a lot of Lewis Black's appeal is in his delivery. I imagined him ranting as I read. Overall, an intelligent and humorous look at Christmas from a different perspective.I enjoyed this book very much. This was a good book. It was divided into "sets" (his standup material, basically) and background on his life (how he got started in comedy, time he spent in Mexico, etc.) The sets were funny, and the story of how he got started in comedy was interesting. The last set/section of background wasn't quite as good. A lot of White's appeal is his delivery, so I might have enjoyed it more if I had gotten this in audiobook format -- read by the author. This was a good book. I'm sure Sedaris is a very clever, great writer, but my sense of humor just doesn't match up with his. This is the second of his books that I have read, and I have to admit I didn't like it any better than I liked the first one.

Beautiful, compelling story with a streak of dark madness and a complex resolution. I liked Ewing's description of the protagonist's journey across the world, and arrival in New Zealand.

This whole series was a great, relaxing read. The fast-paced plot makes it a great escape. The characters, especially Sookie, are likeable.

A very thought-provoking, and very uncomfortable, reversal of the roles of slavery.

This kind of dragged for me. It was the story of a PI and friend of Earhart who was hired in 1970 to visit the South Pacific Island where she'd supposedly disappeared. The only part of the story that was interesting to me was the part set in the 1970. Most of the story was a long flashback of the PI and Earhart's friendship. It was okay; it just didn't hold my interest. This kind of dragged for me. Very good, insightful, well-researched, enjoyable essays. Fadiman has a wonderful writing style. The last one was unexpectedly disturbing, however.

If you like Phillipa Gregory's historical fiction, you'll probably like this book. It has similar themes of royal blood and court intrigue. Both authors write fascinating stories about kings, queens, and their noble subjects. I found that the elements of love -- between Nell and Sir Gabriel, and between Nell and her mother -- were what made this book stand out for me and kept me reading -- even more than the increasing danger Nell finds herself in.If you like Phillipa Gregory's historical fiction, you'll probably like this book.
