It's Ben Shapiro's favorite book, so I hope it's good. I haven't finished it yet (I intend to blaze through the final pages on New Year's Eve)

I couldn't finish this book, although most of the reviews said how wonderful it was. I found it laborious to read.

An interesting historical document from the period immediately following WW II about the struggle to maintain decency. It illustrates Hannah Arendt's "banality of evil".

This is an intriguing novel that presents a different type of Nazi resistance story. As someone who has read quite a bit of fiction and non-fiction work on the topic, I highly recommend it!

Critically-praised, and I can see why. Take a compelling, true story about standing up to the Nazis and put it into the hands of a gifted novelist and you get exceptional, important art. Rich characters, compelling narrative, moves…

Wow. Dark, moving, tragic, true, and laugh-out-loud funny. I'm still thinking about scenes and characters in this book. And now I'm trying to read all the Fallada I can find. Highly recommended.
