Life-changing times for Harry Bosch. A bit over the top. Will try Renee Ballard next.

The first disappointing Bosch book I have read. I didn’t like his pompous attitude. Plus the story segments stretched credibility. I began to wonder if someone else did the writing with his blessing.

Wow. This one is intense. And painful. A previous reviewer mentioned Connelly’s psychological torture of Bosch. Well, this story is the Motherload of that. His whole life pretty much implodes, and he goes off the map, yet again. The…

Interesting plot and very interesting setting, but Bosch's lack of any response to personal loss is starkly in contrast to his self awareness in previous books -- so I see this (trying not to give anything away here) as a serious failing…

A page-turner as usual. But it got too-close-and-personal to Bosch family for my taste. Cause and effect got way skewed; his 13 yr old daughter ended up responsible for nine dead. Unreal.

Dang. This was the first fumble in the series. The previous one, The Overlook, was great. This one felt like some of my home repair projects: some duct tape and paint at the end to make it complete. Without spoiling the book for new…

I always enjoy Michael Connelly's writing. Plot was fast and furious and not always predictable or entirely believable. But, hey, it is Harry Bosch.

My least favourite Harry Bosch book. I too felt that it was cobbled together, making large leaps in credibility.

This is the only Harry Bosch book I found dull and uninteresting... which puzzles me since I've found Connelly's writing to be excellent throughout all his Bosch/Haller books. The sudden jumps to and from Hong Kong in 40 hours,…

I've read most of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series and many of his other books. This is the first time I've been haunted by one of his books. Not simply escapist since this will bother you for days. I'm not sure if this one will…

I have read a number of his works and this one was truly enjoyable. Good storyline and all the twists you usually get from Connelly as well as a very good ending.

This book completely surprised me. It was suggested to me by a friend because he thought it was cool since it has plenty of curses but once I took a step into the amazing world of this book I was shocked. That seemingly boring and stupid…

Now that Matthew McConnaughey has created Michael Connelly's character of Mickey Haller in the movie "The Lincoln Lawyer," I am ready to nominate Nine Dragons for the next film adaptation of a Connelly novel, and Tommy Lee Jones to play…

Definitely not up to Connelly's usual high standards, and not the best of the HB series by any means. Michael has been churning out a lot lately, so as I read this I wondered if he was employing ghost writers. We have had Terry McCaleb…

I did not find this very interesting but instead very predictable and dull. Stuck with it to half way before closing and returning.

My view is the opposite to Patterson's. I am a huge fan of the series. But this is the weakest, least interesting of all the Bosch novels. Very simple, linear plot, with "coincidences" and events that sort of insult the reader's…

This was one of my favorite Connelly novels for reasons I will not say because they would give away too much. He was here in town at the Writer's festival in Oct and was a generous and kind man who apologized for dragging us out in 'the…
