Mostly about Jim Tickler, one of eight children out of tuba-playing Oompah likable enough to make "entropy personable" and the best character around -- Jim who becomes a writer and spends a stint in a Yaddo-ish Colony in the Sarah Orne Jewett cottage where Oompah joins him to write more Hallmarked poetry but doesn't produce a thing. On to a job with a food marketing firm -- belonging to the Wintermoots -- where Jim names products ("a Joyce Carol Oates" cereal) and marries Amy Wintermoot and then is publicly exposed first on a quiz show and later re his not so Hot Diggity Dogs with their "perceptible portions of pork" and on, and on, and back to Amy.
