When her space farming colony fails and the colonists are evacuated, an old woman chooses to remain behind and live out her remaining days alone. Trouble starts when she realizes that she is not alone. The first part of this book, where she learns to live alone on the planet, reminded me a lot of *The Martian.* This book, however, is very much "soft" science fiction where the solitary woman's emotional state is more important than the science of survival. Within the constraints of speculative fiction, this novel reflects on the role and value of wise grandmothers in modern society.

I have read this book/ebook many times. Enjoyed it each and every time. The strength of character. Determination to go her own way.

This is a fantastic read! It is not often that I read a book like this that contains scenes that come back to me long after I have finished it. An aged female heroine, first contact, parenting, its all there and well done.
