Death of a Macho Man --- by --- Mc. Beaton
Beaton’s Hamish Macbeth Mysteries are firmly rooted in the Scottish highlands. They are laced with Scotch whiskey, blooming heather, the burr of Scottish accents and rain, lots and lots of rain. To say that Macbeth, the village copper of Lochdubh is unconventional would be an understatement. And yet, over the years, his competent solving of crimes in the village has only managed to irk and antagonize his commanding officer. To say the least, he is a square per the constabulary is constantly trying to force into a round hole. In “Death”, Macbeth once again shoes up the rest of the force by single-handedly solving a puzzling case the rest of the department had written off as “solved”. “Death” is one of those challenging novels that has you asking “Who did it?” and just when you’re about to say “aha, I’ve got it” it jerks you around and leaves you more confused than ever.

Good series. Looking forward to watching the TV series starring Robert Carlyle as Hamish.
