It would be easy to miss this little gem of a story in the JF section, but it's well worth picking up. This fairy story about a little girl with a talent for skipping rope who makes friends with the fairies is one of Eleanor Farjeon's best (she's also well-known for having written the lyrics "Morning Has Broken."). This wonderful British tale is neither frivolous nor overly-sweet in tone. It makes a great read-aloud so you can get the rhythm of the skipping rope rhymes. Elsie Piddock will become one of your child's favorite people, so be sure you have a skipping rope on hand and maybe some French Almond Rock!
