A brilliantly written novel that is exciting and touching. A hidden gem that I strongly recommend to anyone who likes a good story within the fantasy genre.

It's not bad, certainly. You've got a wounded prince and a magic princess and a romance that goes kind of flat here and there but still some flare to it. The story line is interesting but gets a little convoluted as all the different countries get involved for the climax. Some of it is a little confusing. Not one of my favorites but I wouldn't knock it, either.

This was astounding in the beginning and middle, but the end fell short a bit.

Good writing, good characters for a YA title. The young, defeated prince and the conqueror's daughter become friends, then drift apart. Then she loses her father and her privileged position and has to grow up to meet the challenges of her new circumstances. Adventure, loss, visions, disasters. Very enjoyable!

“Dear Torina, I can't face the idea of sacrificing you to this danger. You must stay alive." He caressed her cheek. "Hear me," he went on. "Even if you feel only friendship, Torina, I've loved you since the day you helped me to my feet. I tried so hard to stop. Then I thought you were dead, and my life hurt every day.”

“What is your future, son of a king?' he heard Torina say.
Landen smiled. 'Ask your crystal, daughter of a queen.'
She traced his eyebrow with a finger. 'My crystal never tells me what I can see with my own eyes.”
