An excellent book with a Spanish perspective on ancient man. I do have some problems with the translation. Translation is an art, not a science. I wish the translator had read some biology books in English before attempting this, and there were a couple of problems as well making me wish the translator had read some books on Early Man in English before starting.
To start with, while "Water Rat" is probably an exact translation of the Spanish, the English word is "Muskrat" and the Spanish word for a people called "Vascones" is not the English word Vascon but Basque. Then there was the problematical translation of the word for "Flint" which in the book is called "Silex." I know already that that word is French for Flint, and not an English word at all. Other than that the book is a very good read, with an interesting philosophical perspective on the development of our minds.
