Nearly every night now, the mage-lights flickered in the sky, no longer only above the locus of Lamh Shabhala but from horizon to horizon, and the newly-released clochs na thintri fed on them. The Riocha were scrambling for possession of the stones--and learning to control them--which created such turmoil and contention that finding Lamh Shabhala and Jenna was temporarily a secondary concern.

She took Lamh Shabhala in her right hand. The mage-lights curled and swayed above her in response. She lifted it to the tendrils of light snaking down from above, closing her eyes as the icy touch burned alonger her hand and wrist and arm and Lamh Shabhala greedily sucked in the power.

I have read this book twice now. The first time was about 7 years ago.

I remembered really liking it, and so I checked it out again.

The writing is excellent. The reason I gave it 3 stars this time around is because the main character really annoyed me.

It is entirely possible this has to do with me getting older and having little patience for teenage girls...but I just wanted to smack her upside the head and tell her to stop being such a brat...

The book has a great plot line, fully developed characters and is well written...I just couldn't stand Jenna for longer than 30 minutes or so. I plan on reading the other two books in the series (which I have never read) since I like how the author writes, I am just hoping there aren't any more teenage girls. Thank god I have sons!
