The granddaddy of all epic tales ... with mice at the heart of it all in defense of Redwall Abbey and all that is right and good! Huge series, many titles also available in eAudio or eBook format, and downloadable video of the cartoon series

In a world where humans don’t exist, and animals have gained the intelligence needed to make buildings and communities, there is a renowned abbey of mice named Redwall. The mice that live there are dedicated to healing and sheltering those who pass by. But far away, a rat warlord named Cluny the Scourge approaches, leaving a trail of death, destruction, and slavery in his wake. He has heard rumors of the riches and prosperity of the abbey and has gathered a horde to conquer it. The woodlanders inside must somehow find a way to defend their homes and families against this new scourge.

What I liked about this book is the world-building that goes on. Each setting and character is lavishly described, making this book and its series more memorable. The plot may be somewhat hackneyed in places during this book, but certain characters add to it in such a way that it becomes more engaging to the reader.

To do NOT like this book. It is so predictable! The story is how Cluny is going to kill them all, so the mouse has to go and find the sword so he can kill him. It was so obvious that this was going to happen! I did not enjoy the novel at all. There was so much death, bad words, and it made no sense. The moles talked is some weird language so I could not understand what they were saying most of the time. The store is useless and is just pure filler. I disliked this story GREATLY!

I listened to this book in the car with my family, Mom, Dad, and my 4 sisters. I enjoyed how methuselah is joking with Matthias and Constance at the dinner table. What challenged me was how Methuselah was always so kind and how he sacrificed his life to stop a thief, And how Matthias is always destroying evil. One of the lessons in this book is that you should never look for trouble. Another is you should listen to your elders. Another is that you should only defend not attack. The last lesson is make good friends and you can help people against any enemy from a horde of rats to a poisonous adder. This book can make you feel sad, happy, thrilled, terrified, and revengeful. The two last lessons are that you should try to be just and loving and the second one is that you may always hatch up a plan but it may not always be the best. I loved this book and hope you do too.

Brian Jacques' series was popular in high school, but I did not read it at that time, so I decided to include it in my 2017 Reading Challenge under the category, "book about an animal." Redwall is a very stereotypical adventure story. The protagonist is male and an orphan, has no faults, saves the day, and gets the girl.

The book that started it all! We love this tale of adventure, bravery, and honor. Who knew woodland creatures led such dramatic lives?
