There are definitely some innovative recipe ideas in this easy to use book. It is geared towards car campers and people who will do short hikes. For the most part it provides recipes that involve some degree of cooking at camp. Thus if you are a long distance backpacker or looking for no cook meals, there is less appeal from this book. Still, the "journey cakes" are delicious no-cook (on the trail) recipes that have high caloric content and taste. Lastly, the authors sometimes use hard-to-find ingredients such as types of seaweed and soy grits, so a reader needs to be willing to 1) search for exotic ingredients, 2) omit them, or 3)take the plunge and purchase rarely used items. In summary, great recipes for a camper / backpacker looking to have a flavorful meal at camp.
