All around the globe, people are being reported dead or missing. In Berlin, a woman vanishes from the city streets. In Paris, a man plunges from the Eiffel Tower. In Denver, a small plane crashes into the mountains. In Manhattan, a body washes ashore from the East River. At first these seem to be random incidents, but the police soon discover that all four of the victims are connected to Kingsley International Group (KIG), the largest think tank in the world. Kelly Harris and Diane Stevens, young widows of two of the victims encounter each other in New York, where Tanner Kingsley, the head of KIG, assures them that he is using every resource to solve the mysterious deaths of their husbands. But he may be too late. Someone is intent on murdering both women, and they suffer a harrowing series of close escapes. Who is trying to kill them and why?

In 4 different cities around the world, 4 different people die mysteriously. All 4 of them worked for a powerful think tanks called KIG. Two of the victims' widows named Diane Stevens and Kelly Harris are forced to work together to avoid being killed and find out the real reason their husbands were killed using only their own brains. Are You Afraid Of The Dark is interesting from the start when it introduces you to the 4 murders that happened around the world. It does slow down a bit when it flashes back to show how the two lead characters met their husbands. The book tells you a bit too many times how much they both loved their husbands and how important they were, but it does help the reader understand the two characters a lot better. But when the two realise that they are also in danger and are on the run is when the book gets really interesting. It's a lot of fun to see the different ways the two avoid being killed using clever tricks and without any weapons at all. The twist at the end was surprising and unexpected but it makes sense and the book did hint towards it throughout the story. Almost every character in the book has their own backstory or motivation. Obviously this helps the protagonists to become better characters, but it also makes the antagonist much more of person instead of just some evil guy. Even the henchmen have their own story and personality. Seeing the two lead characters interact is also fun to read since they don't really like each other at first, but are still forced to work together to survive. Kelly usually keeps to herself and tries not to show too much emotion, while Diane is the opposite of her, and this is what makes the interactions fun. Are You Afraid Of The Dark has a very good mystery story, good characters and is filled with exciting action as well as a twist ending that may be a little unrealistic but still does work.

This is the best Sidney Sheldon story, and the postscript tells us so much about our real world.

A must read !!!
