Gerald Samper, an effete Englishman and ghostwriter for celebrities, lives on a hilltop in Tuscany. His idyll is shattered by the arrival of Marta, a vulgar woman from the Soviet Republic. The neighbours' lives disastrously intertwine as the English obsession with Tuscany is satirized.\

I can't remember why I picked up this book but am sure glad I did: the writing is hilarious, characters a riot, and the recipes a vomitous delight. Highly recommend to anyone with a dry sense of humor.

Very, very funny. A parody of books by ex-pat Brits who have moved to the continental countryside (Tuscany, Provence, Spain....)
