A great readalike for fans of Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) and Megan Abbott (Queenpin), Sara Gran's DOPE is a slim volume that packs quite a punch. Set in the 1950s, Josephine Flannigan is an ex-heroin addict and small-time grifter living on the streets of New York City. She's hired by the parents of a missing girl to track down their daughter who has disappeared into the black hole of addiction that Joe herself just recently emerged from. Searching the back alleys of the grimy NYC underworld, Joe must confront all the devils that she thought was behind her. A great, but dark, book that fans of noir will enjoy.
