SUMMARY: Farmer Brown's animals are at it again with a typewriter and a plan. From one to ten the animals count the steps they need to take to accomplish their deed. 3 buckets piled high, 5 cows type a note, and 7 pigs lead the way. Once they are successful at liberating Farmer's goldfish and releasing them into the river, they count back down again.

ILLUSTRATIONS: The watercolor illustrations in this story are more simple than the ones in the ABC book making them more clear and easier to understand.

THE GOOD: Once again, there are some unusual items counted in this book giving a learning opportunity to the little ones. It begins with 1 Farmer sleeping and 2 Feet creeping and ends with 10 Fish ready to go. Kids may find the story of the liberated fish hilarious depending on their age.
THE NOT AS GOOD: I did not understand what was happening in the story until the end. At that point I had to go back and reread the story to fully understand what the animals were up to. There is not a lot of reinforcement of the numbers here and the numbers are not spelled out.

AGE RECOMMENDATION: Any child ready to learn numbers, especially ages 3-5.
