Grace, horror of horrors, is still unmarried at thirty-one, and living in South Carolina with Michael, a man she would marry if they both weren't so commitment phobic. Her parents, who have just retired to Hilton Head, South Carolina, from New Jersey are as old-fashioned Italian as it gets, so the stage is set for a major showdown

Considering that this is about a large Catholic family, I found many of the people really mean spirited. Usually Frank pulls off an array of fun and quirky characters but I felt like she fell short on many levels. However, the first chapter by "Michael" is brilliant and the only reason I read to the end was to see more of that type of writing (but never found it).

Grace has moved in with her boyfriend, Michael, a non-practicing Irish Catholic, who does stem-cell research. What will her church-going, traditional Italian family think? This book is quite humourous at times but has serious moments as Michael is diagnosed with brain cancer. Read this for entertainment, if you want to eavesdrop on religious debates or if you like eccentrics. You'll meet some here.
