Another good read for me (I seem to only choose good ones) Daniel Musgrave is sixteen and leaving his friends in Indiana to move with his family to Mississippi, or Mi'ssippi as the locals call it. It is the seventies when integration is still very much an experiment, but still a time when the most beautiful black girl in the school can get elected as Prom Queen. Daniel is a fish out of water and only begins to settle in when he meets Tim, another outsider, and they hang together. Their adventures are sometimes hilarious (meeting Cher is a highlight) and sometimes harrowing. Tim is driving the car that hits the Prom Queen and leaves her in a coma. At this point the book has only just begun. I found the narrative rolling me along wondering how things would turn out. Daniel is likable, and Tim is not so much. Don't let anyone tell you the end. Read it for yourself. It will leave you wondering why you didn't see it coming.
