1300s CE France. A twelve-year-old orphan lives and works as a kennel boy taking care of the hunting dogs of an English noble. He accompanies his master and the dogs to France to fight in the Hundred Years War where he suddenly must fend for himself after his beloved pack is killed in the Battle of Crecy.

a boy and a dog and a time period when the lower ranks of people where seen as objects not people. It is a quick read.
