This book resonates with my soul, in many ways. You can feel the joy and grief. Showing the true spirit of punk and moving forward. Good read.

MacDonald's follow-up fills in some gaps from his initial memoir, and over-all I liked it a lot. I appreciate his honesty about struggling with loss, with social issues that overwhelm individuals and families. The book did however feel oddly compressed in parts, esp. toward the end, when he was doing some really fine writing about discovering his origins and connections to his culture of origin in Ireland, that I wish he could've found more room for, and less for the enumeration of punk bands, however they may have influenced and even saved him in his youth. If he is saving some of the later stuff for a third volume, I do hope he finds the courage to go all the way where he seemed to be heading with the redemptive awarenesses he was coming to. Personally, I'd recommend reading _All Souls_ first to get a fuller feel for this one. Overall, I recommend this book, MacDonald seems a "true heart" who has suffered and prevailed, still able to care, and make his readers care as well.
