In 1841, when Laura Bridgman was 12, she was famous around the world. Why? Because she had learned to communicate, read, and write despite being blind and deaf from a case of scarlet fever when she was 2. No one believed that a child with such severe disabilities could be reached.

Actually a very interesting book . I had never heard of Laura Bridgman before but the Title caught my attention and glad it did .
Laura was before the time of Helen Keller but taught Helen's teacher , Anne Sullivan . It was very harsh the remedies , atrocities and practices back in that century and interesting to read about. Glad we have come a long way from then, yet in some ways not as far along as we think. Read the book , enjoyed the story and got some knowledge at the same time .
