I found the author to be very confusing; he makes some good points I agree with, others I do not. I don't agree with the premise of the book comparing electrification [thank you Mr. Tesla and Mr. Westinghouse] to The Cloud - - a flagrantly false comparison! By moving everything online, to eschew original sourcing, allows for the falsification and fictionalization of everything. Yes, fiction published as nonfiction is quite common, but still today one must read the original, the hard copies, to come up with the real facts. In the near present and future: creating false legal precedents on legal databases; creating false background checks easily, creating false criminal backgrounds, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. [Would humbly suggest reading Robert Scheer's latest book, They Know Everything About You, plus Bruce Schneier's book, Data and Goliath, to compare to this book.]

Nicholas Carr’s newest book about technology is a great look at how the Internet is changing society as we know it. Comparing the changes that are occurring now to the changes that occurred with the advent of electricity, he highlights the impact on work, home, and family. Carr examines the changes today with a jaded eye, seeing the drawbacks beyond the benefits.

A fantastic exploration of how technologies can change from novelties to essential parts of our daily lives. Carr has an engaging writing style that has you enjoying the anecdotes as he frames his arguments.
