Bamford's written some good stuff, but the overall premise is incorrect - - according to the after-action congressional investigations [which are online and the Seattle library system which was where I perused them] the CIA was aware of the hijackers in America, and had tasked the NSA to eavesdrop on them. Therefore, not a valid basis to do domestic surveillance, and certainly hasn't stopped any further jihadi murders [Ft. Hood attacks, Boston Marathon bombing, San Bernardino, Orlando, et cetera] to date?
Just as when the FBI had on hand the plans for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center [when the confiscated the files of the murderer of Rabbi Kahane], yet acted unaware.

Incredible detail into the events leading up to 9/11.

A great look into the intelligence community. Examines the events and missteps leading to 9/11, and takes the reader through a history of the NSA in light of those attacks. The history is somewhat dated, and therefore doesn't include anything on the Obama administration, but it is interesting to see how Bush-era politics have carried forward.

This is an important read for those who are concerned about our First Amendment rights and how the government/corporations collect information on us. I actually listened to a downloadable audio version, but it wouldn't list on my Summer Reading. The book is NOT out of date - the progression of events have not stopped. I sent copies of the hard bound to friends. Those of us who were active through the Sixties know about the watchful eye.
