This is a 2007 documentary about the inspirational odyssey of Dr. James Orbinski.
Drawing on his experience deep in the trenches of genocide and famine, this extraordinary man relives the tragedies as well as the triumphs of relief work in Somalia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The film brings the causes and cures of conflict into sharp focus through his unflinching, fearless persepective.
It is an inspirational and profoundly thought-provoking documentary.

I was profoundly touched by Dr. James Orbinski and his thoughts on his experience in witnessing Somalia's massacre of thousands of people, while he was there! He was working in the hospital, trying to treat and give medical care under very difficult, tragic circumstances! It was very traumatic for everyone there, including him.. I am impressed with his attitude and thoughts he has developed in dealing with this trauma.. Now, he had gone back, encouraging new African doctors who remember the massacre, and other survivors he had known from before... People have a need to talk about it, to understand it, to put it into a context!..Since then, he had and is involved in the humanitarian work in Africa and other countries! Dr. Orbinski is a great man with integrity and lots of heart! He is worth hearing!
Powerful documentary on Canadian Dr. James Orbinski's experiences and reflections as a Dr. with Doctors without Borders during the Somalian Famine and Rwandan Genocide.
Unfortunately, I did not find this film to be very profound. I do not think that Dr. Orbinski is presenting any new ideas concerning humanitarianism in this film.
