This is like the Empire Strikes Back of the series so far. All that was made right in Lamentation is turned on it's ear in this novel. Just as good as the first, and in many ways superior. The world building continues, set firmly on the foundation Scholes built in the first novel. The twisting plots and emotional highs and lows continue throughout. There are fewer action scenes in this one, but the book still moves along very well. I was entertained and enthralled from start to finish. I am currently reading the third book in the series and hope to read them all.
Enjoyable read with a good storyline. Plot has some interesting twists, but the characters themselves could be more developed/less stereotyped. As in the last book, longer segments before point of view transitions would be have been an improvement.
