Adopted to be worked as a servant, // loaned \\ out to neighbors to slave for them, and raped by the adopted family's nephew, then pronounced the criminal. Declared an imbecile, to make her victimization easier [Ms. Buck's schoolwork was superior], the crimes against Ms. Buck demonstrates the sorry state of the US Supreme Court and women's rights during those times [and nonexistent rights of the working poor], an era we appear to be devolving quickly back to? [Unfortunate title for this quality of a book, though? Perhaps, Flayed Alive?]
