Complicated bad guy and very complicated ladies who "just can't help themselves" around this Lothario. Lot more action in staid old Boston than I would have credited.

lots of nice quotes, which the ones by Atkins don't always seem to have, though if I remember right the last one by Atkins did.

This is as delicate as any case a private investigator might handle. PI Spenser is hired to stop a blackmailer from exposing his simultaneous affairs with several married, rich women without notifying any spouse or the authorities. The selfish lothario, Gary Eisenhower, who possesses a gifted womanizing prowess, rationalizes that to maintain his expensive “hobby” (pursuing married women) he needs to blackmail them too. The whole situation gives Spenser questions to ponder with his psychologist girl friend Susan Silverman and other associates as he matches wits with a tenacious yet appealing character. Writer Robert B. Parker is in splendid form with the wise-cracking Spenser and the case which starts to drag on his time but that is only before he can get the full story.

It's not my first Parker, but I'm not sure if it's my first Spencer. I'll have to look it up. This is one laid back P.I. Kinda Zen-Psychologist-Humanist-Cool guy. Good read, even though I'm not sure this kinda guy exist in reality. Or in novels even. Take the time to read this. Your blood pressure will surely thank you...

Sadly, the last of the Spenser novels. Robert Parker will be greatly missed.
