Years ago I had a car crash in Montana - I was delayed less than 24 hours, but drove away feeling like a character in this book, too unreal to be real. This was a marvelous read, an anthem for the modern West. Anyone who's ever lived this lifestyle knows that behind the cliche of horses, Indians, and small town sheriffs stands the real frontier of emotional bleakness. Spragg totally nails it with characters so over-the-top it's almost parody, and I enjoyed every wink and nudge of it.
