Patrick McGoohan plays a manipulative jazz player who will wreck his associates lives if that is what it will take to be able to run his own band. This plot, with British actors, is interspersed with jazz scenes with real jazz musicians, both American and British. This is an excellent introduction to 1960’s mainstream jazz and an excellent exploration of human manipulation. The jazz players include Dave Brubeck and Charles Mingus (not Monk as reported elsewhere).

The late night jazz scene in London in the early 60s is the setting for this Othello like tale. Dave Brubeck and Charles Mingus (among others) are the musicians and Richard Attenborough plays the rich fan who hosts the jazz night that becomes so tragic. Yes, that's Patrick McGoohan as the Iago character. For me the setting and the jazz were better than the plot, but it is a film worth watching if "late night jazz scene in London" resonates for you.
