A unique tale of a man embracing life's greatest mystery. Choosing to spend his final days surrounded by his loved ones in the countryside, Boonmee is visited by his dead wife as a ghost, and his lost son as a strange hairy beast with red glowing eyes. They've come to guide him to his final resting place, a cave where his first soul began. With a wry sense of humor and a humanist spirit, it's a magical tale of reincarnation, karma, and nature

Such material is difficult to tell on the wide screen and this film proved so. With captions on, the best way to view most parts is at 2X speed but watch the deleted scenes in extra as well.

A Palme d'Or winner.
When asked what the film was about, the director said he didn't know. He later talked about different reels being in different styles. This should have been a warning. The film is very slow and incomprehensible.

Ghost wife: Boonmee, I know that you're sick.
I often wonder where you are.
If you are alright.
If you have enough to eat.
If you have clothes to wear.
Ghost wife: I'm fine, but I know you are not well.
Jen: Huay, did you get the things
I sent you via the temple?
Huay, Ghost wife of Boomee:
Yes, sister.
Thank you very much.
I could feel them.
I could hear your prayers.
It comforted me on those cold nights

Boomee: I will find you after I'm dead.
Where should my spirit
go to look for you?
In heaven?
Ghost wife:Heaven is over-rated.
There's nothing there.
Where are you then?
Ghost wife: Ghosts aren't attached to places but to people,to the living.
