A fine introduction to the topic.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and learned new information on different aspects of WWII. I hope A. Beevor writes many more books, he is such a good author.

I am a huge Antony Beevor fan but this book just isn't up to the same standard as, for instance, "Stalingrad" or "The Fall of Berlin". First, he has taken on the impossible task of trying to cover a long and complex war in one volume - the details necessarily suffer. Secondly, the book just isn't edited as well as other Beevor works. It has a feeling in places that the book was rushed to the publisher. Still an excellent overview or starting point for the study of WWII.

Very well researched and thorough. Also easy to read....

Focusing primarily on the battles, this history of WW2 is really only suitable for the novice. The author can be harsh in his judgements, and while many may indeed be valid, he provides little explanation or support for them. Gerhard Weinberg's World at Arms is superior, with a narrower and deeper focus.
