A "crime novel" spoiled, for me, by romance.

It helps to read the Lafferton books in order, since the family subplot is ongoing from book to book. I like the two elements intertwined: personal + the latest crime to be solved.

Engrossing thriller. It takes a few chapters to get into it but the ending & identity of the murderer will make your jaw drop. Lots of changes in store for Simon, Cat & the whole clan.

I love the stories about the Serraileur family - it adds a lot of interest for me. These books are more than just mysteries.

Hill needs to decide if she is writing a family drama about Cat, her children and family, and hospice issues or a mystery. There is too much going on here which does not further the mystery, and even distracts from it. This is almost two separate books.
