You're one of that rarest of species... You're a woman, Lucy Cogan." Dr. Lucy Cogan (laughing): " Well, I'm flattered, but I have professional ethics to uphold." Wilf Bond: "Aaah, throw caution to the wind. What if we were to make beauuutiful music together... Your husband would never know!" Dr. Lucy Cogan: "Well, that's reassuring, Wilf." Wilf Bond: "Think about it, huh?" Dr. Lucy Cogan: "No, Wilf." Wilf Bond: "No one will ever know!" Dr. Lucy Cogan: "I will know." Wilf Bond: "Older man... vintage wine... seasoned wood..." Dr. Lucy Cogan: "...Did you say 'wood'?" Wilf Bond: "...Seasoned!..."

Add a CommentMaggie Smith is always good. Some of the other characters parts were far too corny.
Directed by Dustin Hoffman in 2011 based on the play Quartet by Ronald Harwood, this British drama depicts the lives at Beecham House---a retirement home for former professional musicians, patterned after the real-life Casa di Riposo per Musicisti founded by Giuseppe Verdi.
Although the cultured Englishfolk live peacefully in a beautifully maintained residence for retired musicians, the film lacks a real drama with turns and twists.
The story appears predictable and lack-lustre.
Good acting, good music, some sadness, some laughs. We enjoyed it.
This movie is quite funny and moving in its telling of a story about aging and forgiveness. It moved quite slowly at the beginning, with more setup than needed. We loved the unique concept of a retirement home for aging classical musician and trained opera stars.
I liked this DVD. It has a story about 4 main characters which are aging elderly senior citizen. The script is strong. It is well acted. It is good for all ages. The story is slow moving. You may relate to the experience of the actors. I like Maggie Smith as an actress.
I thought it was kind of boring! Not much of an ending to the movie!
Rated 10/10.
Wonderful actors/actresses and an interesting story, plus positive outcome, make this "oldies" film a worthy bit of entertaiment.
Good film, funny. Directed by Dustin Hoffman.
Takes place in an old age home for performers in England. Has a wonderful cast, lots of laughs with some serious bits thrown in. I hope you take the time to watch! I was surprised watching the closing credits and noting that Dustin Hoffman directs--great debut.
