Enjoied this book because I have experienced a blackout during summer and it was fun.

There were several aspects of this book that we enjoyed. We really appreciated how the author developed the relationship between the two brothers and then used the blackout to rekindle the relationship. Second, the use of black to emphasize the characters is also powerful during the blackout and how an event like this can bring us back to what matters, our relationships with others. Last, it also served to reawaken in some of us the desire to have a retreat like a tree house to slow our lives down to notice what really matters.

Made me want to go out and find a tree to make a tree house for my daughter!

In the Tree House is largely a monologue told by a young boy about his time with his older brother, who is growing up, but still finds the time to have fun with him. The art looks more like a comic strip style than a normal children's book.

Wonderful tale about a little brother who creates a tree house with his older brother and father, only to find his older brother moving on to "older kid" things, until one day, a surprise event reunites them.
