With Jor-El in recently discovered key scenes and different Lois Lane scenes to unmask Clark Kent as Superman, this Superman II is an eye-opening alternate experience. Now, for the first time, director Richard Donner's never-before-seen vision is here.

Two directors make this a bit of a mess. It has its moments but ultimately does not fulfill. RIP.

Folks, this is the "Richard Donner"-cut. This far more superior to the "Lester"-cut. This is the version initially-directed by Richard Donner (before he was taken off the project, due to "creative differences"); re-edited; and remastered, with the Richard Donner-cut. This one shows a BETTER script. NOT the version where they added a new set of powers (disappearing/reappearing, telekinesis, being called "immortal", shooting white force-beams from the fingers, throwing his "S"-shield to cover people with...STARLOG magazine addressed these same issues long ago) that are nothing remotely related to Superman or his fellow Kryptonians.
This 2006 re-done version is the one comic book/super hero movie that set the format for all super hero movies to come... and changed the way comic books and graphic novels are written for all time to come. I recommend "SUPERMAN II: THE RICHARD DONNER CUT", over the other S-2. In fact, don't even watch the other version. Trust! --Mark A. Payne

I would recommend that anyone interested in this film see The Donner Cut version, if you can. The library has it on Bku-ray,
Richard Donner was replaced as director during the filming of Superman II. His vision followed the same plot, but includes scenes with Marlon Brando, includes humour without being quite as campy. Just a notch better, imo.

This is a 1980 British-American superman II film directed by Richard Lester, based on the DC Comics character Superman.
It is a sequel to the 1978 film Superman.
The screenplay is in a bad shape.
No great director makes a good movie out of a bad script.
I believe this flick is a good example for that axiom.
It is boring and I quit viewing halfway through.

How is this thing included among the good superhero films?

Where the original is mythic, this one is camp (and not in the fun way). Where the original is earnest, this one is ironic. Where the original is hopeful, this one is jaded. Where the original is about making choices with consequences, this one is about avoiding consequences.

I agree , couldn't believe this mess. I mean Lois fools Clark with a gun loaded BLANKS?! Give this a miss and find the original cut.

Picks up where the first film left off, with the arrival of three villains from Superman's home planet. General Zod, Nom and Ursa were exiled to the Phantom Zone, by Jor-el and thus are looking for revenge against his son who is Earth's hero Superman. However, the Man of Steel after proclaiming his love for fellow reporter Lois Lane has given up his powers to be with her. He gets into a fight at a truck stop where he is beaten to a pulp. Realizing that the only way to save Earth, is to regain his powers, Clark returns to the Fortress, and in fact becomes Super once again. The movie's third act is a duel to the death in the city of Metropolis. The villains accompanied by the ever diabolical Lex Luthor take Lois and lead Superman to the Fortress, where he ultimately defeats the three villians and sends Luthor back to prison. Action wise it's even better than the first movie.
