"Jerene Jarvis Johnston and her husband Duke are exemplars of Charlotte, North Carolina's high society, where old Southern money--and older Southern secrets--meet the new wealth of bankers, speculators, and carpetbagging social climbers. As the four Johnston children wander perpetually toward scandal and mishap, steely and implacable Jerene stops at nothing to preserve the family's legacy, Duke's fragile honor, and what's left of the family fortune. But is it too much to ask for one ounce of cooperation from her heedless family?"--Back cover

Loved this book and found the early reviews of the author to be on point. So much going on but well organized and an easy fast read.

This book is said to be a hilarious satire.
I found it to be disgustingly crude and lewd.

Just not my kind of book. And there are so many great books out there, I have a reading list a mile long, so there's no point forcing myself to read something that just isn't interesting to me. From what I saw of the story, it's southern belle, completely swept up in debutante ball dresses, sororities, and her future perfect husband and life.
