A Virgil Flowers Mystery
Audiobook CD - 2014
"In Southeast Minnesota, down on the Mississippi, a school board meeting is coming to an end. The board chairman announces that the rest of the meeting will be closed, due to personnelissues. "Issues" is correct. The proposal up for a vote before them is whether to authorize the killing of a local reporter. The vote is four to one in favor. Meanwhile, not far away, Virgil Flowers is helping out a friend by looking into a dognapping, which seems to be turning into something much bigger and uglier-a team of dognappers supplying medical labs-when he gets a call from Lucas Davenport. A murdered body has been found-and the victim is a local reporter"--.

Add a CommentBeing a dog lover my favorite part of this story was at the end when the Humane society and women's groups showed up en masse to help stop the dog nappers.
I just loved this book and the characters within it….especially the relationship with Johnson. I listened on audio book and laughed out loud several times. I hope to see more of this in the future.
The eighth book in the Virgil Flowers series - I like Virgil Flowers ( not as much as Lucas Davenport ) plus the setting is here in Minnesota. I always enjoy a John Sandford read. Kristi & Abby Tabby
Mr Sanford has the beginnings of being a good writer, although his women characters are not only madonna/whore archetypes but are also gaunt characterizations of them.
John Sandford outdoes himself with the Virgil Flowers novels, and Eric Conger brings them alive by his great narrative. I just love all the characters that are in this series and if you had to imagine how Virgil would sound in real life just listen to Eric Conger. This was an entertaining novel, and now Virgil has a dog! That will bring another aspect to the next novel, which I look forward to.
Sandford's Flowers character continues to grow as well as his plots. This is his best so far. 10 of 10 stars
