Cormac McCarthy doesn't spoon feed stories for the masses. This film is gritty and at times disgusting---but that is how life is too.

America in this time period was barbaric in certain parts so it can be believed that a few people ended up as deprived and depraved as the main character.

In terms of embracing a character, I suppose Scott Haze deserves props, and this movie, I guess, tells the story of a man shunned by society and the depths to which he falls. That being said, there is nothing redeeming about the experience for the viewer. It wallows in grossness for too long, but (maybe to make the main character seem more sympathetic?) merely hints at the level of murder and necrophilia that he committed. No doubt more of those scenes would merely be redundant, but that didn't spare us from countless long scenes of him running and grunting through the woods. My advice: skip it entirely, you aren't missing anything worth seeing.

Based on a book by one of our most treasured novelists, Cormac McCarthy, I understood that this was an unsettling and at times mind boggling story. A study of a character whose attempts to survive despite his many shortcomings and obvious deficiencies was both frightening and heart-wrenching. The title is well fitting as Ballard, who could hardy be considered human at times, expressed a wide range of emotions that we can all relate to.

DISGUSTING!!! GROSS!!! JUST PLAIN NASTY!!! Five minutes was as far as I got and from what I read in the comments I was one of the lucky ones. Who wants to see someone defecate and then smeer it back onto their backside? Between this and his movie THE INTERVIEW, had to turn it off too, James Franco is pushing his luck.

This movie deserves a rating of HSC (Humans Strongly Cautioned). I am quite open-minded, but multiple scenes of necrophilia and corpses, coupled with the graphic scene of defecation, made this film virtually unwatchable. The disgustingly demented lead character barely articulated through his shiny white prosthetic teeth (if he couldn't afford toilet paper, how then could he buy a toothbrush and tooth paste?). Franco deserves a rating of five turds for this one.

TinaCooper says this movie blows, never have I seen a more disorientated/vulgur/tasteless movie as this before. Now I admit there were a few goofey parts, but trust me "THE Nasty" out weighed any part you could enjoy. Who was this producer/writer/and director mad with adn why would they put it out like this?

The supremely untalented and glib James Franco directed this movie, so it comes as no surprise he dropped a cinematic " turd ".

WARNING, this movie is the most disgusting I have ever seen! Don't waste your time or your eyes viewing this. There are some things that should just not be seen. This movie shows the lead character spreading his butt cheeks and pooping. It shows the turd dropping from his behind and it shows the poop being smeared when he uses a twig to wipe. Also, sex with a dead woman is shown. I fast-forwarded thru the entire movie and it was pointless.
