fun way to introduce real poetry skills

ChristchurchLib May 25, 2015

Margaret McNamara sets her playful, child-friendly story in the classroom and poetry - rom metaphors to acrostics to haiku - is the name of the game. The focus here is on Elinor, whose confidence falters as she tries to write something "perfect" for Poem in Your Pocket Day and impress a visiting poet.

April is National Poetry Month! Mr. Tiffin’s class is celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day with a visit from a guest poet, and Elinor has been looking forward to filling her pockets with her own poems. When she struggles to write a “perfect” poem, though, she’s left without anything to show. Can Elinor still find a way to enjoy Poem in Your Pocket Day?
