The Theory of Everything is a visually interesting, well-directed and extraordinarily acted film.

James Marsh’s overly romanticized biopic on the life of celebrated physicist Stephen Hawking, based on the autobiography of former wife Jane Hawking, is saved from the ordinary by a script which never descends to mawkishness and a pair of Oscar-nominated performances from Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones (he won, she didn’t). Focusing more on Hawking’s private life—the challenges of a deteriorating body, the dissolution of his thirty-year marriage, his evolving personal philosophy—Marsh elicits amazing performances from his two leads. Eddie Redmayne went to great lengths when preparing for the title role and it shows in the subtleties of voice and gesture as he goes from loveable nerd to world renown theoretician, his bodily contortions almost painful to watch as the disease takes its toll. For her part Felicity Jones plays the faithful wife with a mind of her own to great effect, her initial adoration turning to something more sober as two years stretch to a dozen and more. Complimented by a beautiful musical score from Jóhann Jóhannsson this is a fitting homage to a most remarkable life.

Amazing acting performances! Felicity Jones holds her own in terms of her character development against her co-star. This movie is mainly focused on the degradation of Stephen Hawking's health and their personal relationship through out it. While I found this view very interesting and personal my only complaint was that at times it was very difficult to figure out when a lot of this was occurring. They also remove reference to all of the awards that Stephen Hawking has achieved except for a casual reference "going to get another award" - noting these would have been helpful in terms of placing when this film was taking place in terms of his career.

What a brilliant acting job by Eddie Redmayne! He definitely deserves all the awards he got for this role. He completely took on the physicality of Stephen Hawking and he even kind of looks like a young version of him - it was truly Redmayne's portrayal of Hawking that kept me intrigued throughout the two hour film. If you can't appreciate the extreme effort by Redmanye, I can see parts of this movie where things were slow. I did not mind, but it seemed to just keep going and going and going by the end of it. Overall, I enjoyed this film and it will likely stick with me for a few days.

Good look into the life of Stephen Hawking, a man that I have heard of but didn't know a lot about, this movie solved that.

Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking.. I cried.. I even spent time watching the bonus features, and I am blown away by all the work Eddie did to prepare for this role and really do Stephen Hawking justice. He clearly did, since Stephen even commends Eddie's performance. Very beautiful movie, and really amazing to watch Stephen Hawking's journey.

A fitting bio film of Stephen Hawking, marvelously acted by Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones provides a moving supporting role as the woman who stands by him as he degenerates from his disease, yet still retains the brilliance that makes the man who he is. I certainly recommend seeing this one.

Q: How do you deal with all the attention?
Hawking: I was stopped recently by a tourist in Cambridge, who asked if I was the real Stephen Hawking. I replied I was not and said the real one was much better looking.

Elaine recited Hawking's writing: "Who are we?"
"Why are we here?"
"If we ever learn this,"
"it will be the ultimate
triumph of human reason,"
"for then we would know
the mind of God."

Q: You have said you do not believe in God. Do you have a philosophy of life that helps you?
Hawking: It is clear that we are just an advanced breed of primates on a minor planet orbiting around a very average star in the outer suburb of one among 100 billion galaxies. But, ever since the dawn of civilization, people have craved for an understanding of the underlying order of the world. There ought to be something very special about the boundary conditions of the universe. And what can be more special than that there is no boundary... There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope.
