From Library Staff

Inspired by the question, "What are they doing right at this moment on the other side of the world?" this book focuses on natural and human events happening all over the world in the same second. Gorgeous, haiku-like illustrations in a large-format picture book.

It's fun to study every illustration in this book and then check the map in the back to see the country in which it takes place (and the exact time). A beautiful reminder that we live in a big, busy, diverse world.

Originally published in Portugal in 2008, the first American edition of this picture book by Martins and Carvalho is an uplifting look at how we spend our seconds around the world. From Mexico City to Tokyo, young readers are presented snapshots of life around the world - riding a bicycle for the first time, walking home from school, or finishing a book. The simple text makes this a quick read, but the illustrations add so much to the story that readers will end up spending lots of time lingering on each page. Ideal for ages 5+.
