The tale of young Frankie Presto, a war orphan raised by a blind music teacher in a small Spanish town. At nine years old, Frankie is sent to America in the bottom of a boat. His only possession is an old guitar and six precious strings. But Frankie's talent is touched by the gods, and his amazing journey weaves him through the musical landscape of the 20th century, from classical to jazz to rock and roll, with his stunning talent affecting numerous stars along the way, including Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Carole King, Wynton Marsalis and even KISS. Frankie becomes a pop star himself. He makes records. He is adored. But his gift is also his burden, as he realizes, through his music, he can actually affect people's futures-with one string turning blue whenever a life is altered

I loved it. I have a feeling that I'm not capable of not liking anything that Mitch Albom has written or will write.

Found this book by accident on the way out. Soooo glad I borrowed it. Perhaps the best Mitch Albom book ever. A great read - couldn’t put it down.

When words are not enough, it is the beautiful language of music that binds people together. This is the theme of this book narrated my music itself. It follows Frankie Presto throughout his life and tells tales of how his music came to influence so many people and how he altered the lives of 6, including himself. As much as I love this author, I can't say I was completely absorbed into this book. It wasn't until the last 15 pages when I glad I didn't give up on it. However, he still did an amazing job connecting the various people and events together that spanned over several decades.

One of my all-time favorite stories. I've enjoyed several of the other Mitch Albom books, but this one was amazing. The story, the characters, the musical references, all wonderful. I listened on audiobook and I can't imagine that it would be as good to read, as the numerous people voicing the different characters made it that much better.

The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto is "Magic". The narrator of this story is music and it takes us on an unforgettable trip through Frankie's life.

Mitch Albom tells compelling stories. Loved how he entwined historical musicians into Frankie's life. Other books I've read, I've felt a more upbeat connections. Frankie, through bad luck or bad choices, never has a life I feel he had true happiness and contentment. Sad.

Well written -- characters were memorable and the use of real musicians with the story line made it compelling. Where can we meet this Frankie Presto?

Mitch Albom creates a fictional character who lives through the very influential time of music, from the classics through Elvis and Woodstock to a current country star. Frankie isn't perfect and he suffers some of the pitfalls that musicians often encounter, but he is a sympathetic protagonist. You learn about many historical composers and musicians as Frankie makes his way through the musical landscape.
