"The trilogy that began with The Emperor's Blades and continued in The Providence of Fire reaches its epic conclusion, as war engulfs the Annurian Empire. The ancient Csestriim are back to finish their purge of humanity; armies march against the capital; leaches, solitary beings who draw power from the natural world to fuel their extraordinary abilities, maneuver on all sides to affect the outcome of the war; and capricious gods walk the earth in human guise with agendas of their own. But the three imperial siblings at the heart of it all--Valyn, Adare, and Kaden--come to understand that even if they survive the holocaust unleashed on their world, there may be no reconciling their conflicting visions of the future"-- Provided by publisher

Epic novel that brushes up against Skullsworn.

Not as good as the first two in the series. I felt that Staveley ended the story abruptly, and left a lot of unanswered questions about most of the characters. Maybe he intends to write spin-off stories. But this story seemed unfinished.

This series presents a new form of magic and an interesting perspective on deities. Staveley writes with minimal back stories so the previous 2 novels suffered a little from moments of "deus ex machina" whereas this 3rd in the series suffers a little from escalation ... when you have already portrayed everyone as superhumanly badass, where else can you go? You may notice that the somewhat excessive use of a made-up curse in the other 2 books has been largely replaced by the F-word as a minor example of this. I found it odd that the proverbial Chekov's gun mentioned so early on never came into play. The ending seemed rushed but the series has enough merit to be recommended.
