A very enjoyable, insightful, interesting, playful, thoughtful and thought-provoking set of essays, interspersed with a dictionary-like definitions of mostly unusual words. His essay on the his grammatical pet peeves is the worst piece in the set, but enjoyable if you like language maven-esque complaining; some of the reviews are okay, and some others great: he gives such a thoughtful and long review of Wittgenstein's Daughter that its almost pointless to read the book; his essays on tennis are terrific too. These are the sort of essays one would need to have before one and respond to rather than merely enjoy.
