These books are, as far as I know, either primarily or entirely by Ryk Spoor. They are very much Robinsonades (ie. in the style of Robinson Crusoe), although they owe more to the Swiss Family Robinson than the original Robinson. In the first book ("Castaway Planet") a family with four daughters gets marooned on a strange, hidden planet. Now in this book, they are joined by a group of four young men, each roughly the same age as the four daughters. It's clear that if the series continues, they are likely to pair up. But the two groups are completely isolated from each other for almost all of both books, so neither book has much in the way of a romantic plot.

Castaway Odyssey was not as good as Castaway Planet, mainly because the strange and mysterious nature of the planet was already discovered in the first book. So this is a much more straightforward (and less compelling) simple survival/adventure story.

Eric Flint did a middling good job writing alternate history novels a few years ago. Then he learned he could put his name on works by unknown writers and still make a lot of money without having to do anything for it.

This book is 300-plus pages of cardboard cutout characters talking to one another about all manner of things that contribute nothing to the plot, imaginary physics performing heroic and miraculous deeds explained in loving detail, and a story. Not a plot, a story. Plots include suspense.

300 pages without a moment of suspense is an accomplishment of sorts, I suppose.
