Terrible movie for kids. The few creative gags (most of which show up in the trailer) hooked us in so the movie could deliver its offensive message of disrespect, violence, gangster classism and racism. Shame on the producers for wasting creativity on this ugly story, shame on the library for placing this on the children's shelf.

Loved the animation and writing... good movie. The "flushed pets," were a nice touch. Dana Carvey is hilarious as the old paralyzed Bassett hound.

Very cute movie. Kevin Hart does a hilarious job of playing a crazed bunny rabbit. Great film for the whole family!

A friend recommended this movie (at least, I *think* this was the movie he recommended). I watched it last night and was appalled that it is shelved in the Children's section. It starts out cute, when the movie shows the interaction of a little dog, his owner, and the other animals who manage to escape their apartments and visit each other while their owners are at work. Then a new, very large dog comes into the picture and the film devolves into intimidation, payback, criminal posturing to convince a gang of cats, who were rescuing a pit bull-like dog in a muzzle, to help them to also escape from a dogcatcher van. At that point, I stopped watching the movie. Absolute trash.

Racist, misogynistic, and every cliche all rolled together in various cretures yelling out their unfunny lines.
Simply awful. A waste of popcorn

Poor. Do not know age group target but missed all.

The Internet was right. It was the bad rehash of Disney's most infamous 1995 classic Toy Story except it was a wonderful epitome of today's racial separation in America that is highly recommended to be shown in high school history class in the far distant future. I think it was watered down to just pets and animals, so the children these days could get brainwashed to entertainment standards of commercialism from Hollyweird and yes, they cannot understand deeper than just the plot. The Weiner Kingdom fantasy scene had stolen the show that's taken from Grease (which I thought I want to love deservedly). The first 20 minutes were good (yeah it starts with a good backstory of Max within the first few years before the main arc beginning when his owner brought in Duke home), but it takes away everything that contained from the previews and commercials before one hour was spent feeling somewhat bored all the time when Duke and Max were suddenly outside and spend one whole day on an adventure that dragged on and on while Max's neighbor figured it out, had company with random pets and then comes the big climax: they all had come together in one big group at the end of the day, so the two finally get to meet up face-to-face. The last five minutes was just the same as the first twenty except NO TAKING AWAY FROM THE PREVIEWS!!! The post-credits scene was just I dunno okay I guess?
The animation and artwork was decent, acting was okay, but the plot... no... just... no.
If you want something entertaining, I think this might be perfect for you if you're a liberal. If you want deep thoughts about the secret life of pets, I do recommend a nonfic book John Bradshaw's Dog Sense or either a narrative John Grogan's Marley and Me.

The smitten Gidget:
So what it looks like, Max?
-Brown and white, he has short hair. Very handsome, flickering in his eyes ..
===
Max, disappeared. He's out there somewhere. Lost, frightened, very very handsome .. We must find and bring it home.
===
Come on, Max did not even know you're alive.
-I do not care. I love him. I love him with all my heart. And I'll find Max, and I do not care who will participate.
===
Listen, this is my opinion. Maybe there's a dog in the neighborhood that are similar Max. Begin acquainted with them, after a while you will forget him.
===
You know that little dog?
-He is my friend. And some say he was my boyfriend.
Nobody said that.

Who are you?
-Huh? Who are we? Who are we? We are pet waste. Discarded by our owner, and now we want revenge! It's like a club, but with violence. (alternate: Who are we? *Who* are *we*? We are the Flushed Pets. Thrown away by our owners and now we are out for revenge! It's like a club, but with biting and scratching. )
Take us with you.
-I do not think so, Pets! Yes, you smell like a pet. You choose your side, and now you regret it.

===
Listen, this is my opinion. Maybe there's a dog in the neighborhood that are similar Max. Begin acquainted with them, after a while you will forget him.
-We will not give up, we are dedicated, we are loyal, we are the best pets. We are a dog!
-- Cat.
-- Eagle.
-Congratulations! Today you are a dog, whether you like it or not.
