I found this book interesting at first, but then it just goes on and on in the same voice, without getting anywhere. It's depressing - not quite 'Sylvia Plath I want to kill myself' level, but definitely somewhere on that spectrum. It wasn't worth the time I spent reading it, although it had enough interest for me to finish.

Without telling her family, our protagonist, Elyria, journeys half way around the world and wanders New Zealand. The story gets off to a slow start, and this is the kind of novel that either clicks for a reader, or doesn't. The prose is wonderful, but may not be enough for a reader looking for a strong, riveting plot.

I loved this book. I can see how it may be difficult for some readers, but as someone who feels life out loud, this book was incredibly heart breaking and spot on for what life can be. You can't skip steps in the road to healing, and this book explores that to the very end.

The Kirkus reviewer above is bang on, I had to force myself to finish this book.
