I would read another Olsen book. I had to wait a while for the story to became a page turner. There were paragraphs of unnecessary detail that Olsen included that I just skipped over. The story has mainly female characters, quite a few of them are lesbian all with some problem, the worst being a psycho. Set on Bainbridge Island just a few miles south of us, this book captures the scenery. Both typical and atypical representations of Native American characters - weak domestic/family relations vs escaping the poverty through a successful career. Olsen too neatly has all characters connecting with each other in the story. His conclusion, when it finally arrives, ends the story quickly. Olsen is a career journalist and it shows in his writing.
For starters, don't read the comments by other authors, you'll only be disappointed. All I will say is that unless there is absolutely nothing else to read, you'll do well skipping this one
Typical good book from Olsen.
