Jake (whose father disappeared without a trace two years earlier) and Weird Lily (whose parents didn’t want her and who lives with her grandfather who runs a cemetery) are both in Grade 6 and are best friends. One night a baby is left on Jake’s doorstep and his mother decides to keep it. Jake discovers he likes being a big brother but on the night of a full moon when he is baby sitting he is horrified to find that the baby has turned into a monster. With Lily’s help he reverses the spell but he knows the transformation will occur again. The second full moon grown up monsters appear to take the baby and Jake, Lily, Lily’s grandfather and Jake’s neighbour , Mrs. McSweeney, find themselves in Always October, the home of the monsters. They must find their way home at the same time as they protect the baby and this leads to an exciting adventure. Reviewed by BPL volunteer EE.
