But even she didn't see this coming: her own brother arrested for the grisly murders of three beautiful young women. Never...accept a reassignment to the middle of nowhere 'for your own good.' Harry's been sent to a makeshift town in a desolate landscape--a world full of easy money, plenty of illegal ways to spend it, and a ragtag collection of transient characters who thrive on the fringes of society. A place where little grows, but evil flourishes. anyone. Looking into a seemingly simple missing persons case, Harry's been assigned to a new 'partner.' But is he actually meant to be a watchdog? Still reeling from the accusations against her brother, Harry can't even trust her own instincts, which she's never doubted...until now. Never...go anywhere without leaving a trace. Far from the world she knows and desperate to clear her brother's name, Harry has to mine the dark secrets of her strange new home for answers to a deepening mystery--before she vanishes in a place where no one would ever think to look for her. A very quick read, definitely a page turner, but I was quite unsatisfied with the ending. Patterson has a knack for suspense, that's for sure. I think I prefer the character of Harriet's partner, Whitt, over Harriet Blue (unusual since I love books with heroines), and of course I simply have to find out what happens to her brother Sam... I'm guessing questions that remain (more raised than answered in this debut of the series) will be addressed in subsequent books so I'll have to keep reading. Another thing Patterson is good at...

Interesting story. It takes place in Australia. An intriguing plot - two other story lines are also introduced. Looking forward to the next one.

I read it and it took along time (usually get thru a JP book in a couple of days) and for the life of me cannot recall much about it except did not care for the lead character much. Disappointment big time

This book does not move quickly, too much background clutter and don't get me started on the non-ending. WTF....

Another garbage book from the Patterson mill. Did he even read this thing which is so full of holes and with such an obvious plot that I figured it out less than a third of the way through?

This book was a disappointment. Patterson is churning out too many books in a short time. This book dragged on too long. Would not recommend it.

Enjoyed the new character! Book was light and fun - looking forward to it becoming a series... left me wanting more

The ending left this reader wondering what happened to the character on trial. There was no real ending.

What a poor excuse for a book. This was horrible not like his others. If he teams with this person again, I wont bother reading it. Waste of time.

I enjoyed this book and the shorter chapters helped with the flow of the book and storyline. This book was entertaining to read, however, the ending felt incomplete. After reading the last page, I was looking for the rest of the story. That was the part that was disappointing since it made the book feel incomplete and the story unfinished.

"They're thinking, 'Either that woman's got a gun back there, or her jeans don't fit.'"
